The grandest Gothic revival castle in all the land…

Welcome to England’s most elegant and illustrious Gothic revival stately home; a beautifully preserved relic of the early modern aristocracy set within open parkland in the spectacular North Yorkshire countryside. A stunning venue for weddings and events with total exclusivity, as well as a dramatic TV and film location.

Built by the premier Baron of England, Lord Mowbray, Segrave and Stourton in the 1840s, this stately home is steeped in history. Enter into its time capsule for an insight into by-gone eras, and be enchanted by the ambience of a castle once owned by Prince Frederick (the ‘Grand Old Duke of York’ and brother to King George IV) in the 18th century.

The castle is open to the public for guided tours on Wednesday and Bank Holiday Monday afternoons from Easter Monday until the end of October, with three Special Tours including afternoon tea. Please refer to Visitor Information for full details. The castle is also available all year round to hire for your special wedding day or private event.

Allerton Castle is a truly magical place to celebrate one of the most important days of your life and what could be more romantic than hosting your celebration as masters of Allerton Castle for the day. Bring your friends and family together in this fairytale setting for your wedding celebration; this gothic revival stately home is 'Exclusively Yours' for the day.

If you know me even a little bit, you know that title caught my eye and stole my heart. A true Anglophile, the traditional English wedding is my ultimate weakness. Especially when it's this beautiful and when JoPhoto was there to capture every beautiful moment!
Anyone who has organised an event over the past year or so cannot help but be aware of the rise of Veganism today, whether it is for concerns about animal welfare, health or environmental factors Veganism is no longer the minority it once was in fact numbers have increased 4 fold this year. Recent studies have shown that vegans and vegetarians on the whole are healthier than followers of an omnivorous diet (though the jury is out on life expectancy.) And when Guinness changes its 200 year old brewing process to go Vegan, it’s time to sit up and take notice.

"Hi Jessica We all had an amazing time thanks, thanks to you, Libby and Darrell who ensured everything ran perfectly. Everyone commented on the beautiful fairytale venue, many saying it was the best wedding they'd been to. A total wow factor. We have shared lots of photos on social media to share the wonderful day and the beauty of the Castle. Special thanks to yourself and Libby though who managed the many facets of the planning and the actual day beautifully and a particular 'glitch' without fuss, which we really appreciated. Once again, thank you so much for all your support; have a lovely Christmas break and a wonderful 2019."

"I got married at Allerton Castle in November last year and wow, were do I start? As soon as we came to view the castle as a potential wedding venue we knew straight away it was the one. Even the moment we walked into the entrance, it took our breathe away. From booking the venue, to the day of the wedding, pretty much everything was seamless with our organisers Jessica and Lizzy. They catered to all of our needs including my Grandad who had a lot of disability issues. I felt at ease knowing they had everything under control. Every part of the castle is picture worthy, including the gardens outside and of course the amazing staircase. Walking down those with my Dad was a truly emotional experience. If only we could do it all over again!!! We love Allerton Castle with all our heart. Lauren & Ben xxx"

"I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the tour last Sunday 25th November. Having visited many Country Houses as part of the HHA I have to say that Allerton is quite unique. The restorations carried out by Dr Rolph really do transport the visitor back into an era that has sadly long passed. The Castle is an incredible building which thankfully has a benefactor who appreciates the quality and craftsmanship of the Victorian era. We were really made to feel at home. It was refreshingly different to be allowed to touch and sit on the furniture and not be constrained by guide ropes and a museum atmosphere. For a few hours it was as though Allerton Castle was home. During our visit the staff were all friendly, informative and attentive. The afternoon tea was delicious and beautifully presented. All in all a great day out. Dr Rolph is to be congratulated in saving a truly magnificent building from what inevitably would have been demolition, a fate that so many others have suffered. The only thing that would have made Sunday even better would have been to hear the instruments play in the Music room but perhaps that could be for another visit. Thanks once again. Eric Hamer"

"Hi Jessica We just wanted to say thank you again for all your help on the run up too and during our wedding day. We had such a fantastic and magical day that without your help and organisation wouldnt have been possible. Thank you for looking after us and our guests and keeping everything running smoothly. Also thank you for taking Sam (the architect) for a tour. That really was above and beyond and he still hasn’t stopped talking about it. The day was a dream come true in a magical venue! "

"Hello Jessica and Hannah First of all thank you so much for absolutely everything you both did to ensure that our wedding day went has we hoped it would. Darren and I had the best day ever and speaking with our guests so did they. For me the stress was removed by yourselves and Daryl and his team at Bradshaws, that was so important. Jessica, nobody noticed you straighten my dress at the top of the stairs until they watched a video, that made me chuckle. Stealth like!! Guests were in awe of the venue and talk about the beautiful surroundings, I think for Darren and I despite the grandeur of a castle, it felt personal and intimate. It is unique and when I look at other weddings in hotels they are pretty but you know that the rooms are used for business and other such events. It was my very own fairytale. Nothing was ever too much trouble, you both ensured everything run to time, even though the registrar was late! Thank you for putting a picture of us on your instagram....that’s cool. Many thanks Martine Hartley"

"Lovely location for a lovely home.. What an experience to be able to have a tour around a lovely home that is open to all and is looked after to the highest quality.. Being able to walk on the original carpets where the owners previously did, sit on chairs which the owners did/do, be able to enjoy all aspects of the home.. Knowing somebody has spent fortunes on the premises and land for others to enjoy is clearly amazing, hats off the owner.. The guides with their wide span of knowledge of the home and area was amazing and very entertaining.. Definitely be going back and also letting others know its a must..."
