Educational Visits in North Yorkshire
Allerton Castle has a fascinating history, which continues to be woven right through to the present day.
We are passionate about sharing our heritage and expertise with the community. Our educational programmes offers an insight into the history, art, architecture and antiques that make our country house so spectacular. To this day Allerton Castle in North Yorkshire, has become one of the top local historical attractions in the area. Whether you're a primary school, secondary school, private school, college, university or any type of further education setting, Allerton Castle is a great way for people of any age to learn about local history.
Educational Development Work & Implementation
Developed with the advice and support of Peter Burke, the History Houses Association Education Advisor, our educational initiatives take a three-pronged approach to training and education. Supported by the Foundation, we hope to build strong relationships with schools, colleges and universities throughout the North. To manage and implement these educational activities, our programmes will require the support of volunteers. Our Education Officers will advise on matters related to the national curriculum, arrange school visits and be a first point of contact with school leadership teams.
Local Educational Programmes in North Yorkshire
A rare example of a gothic country house, Allerton Castle presents a unique and exciting contrast to the oft-seen Georgian architectural style prevalent in Yorkshire’s stately homes. Not only this, but the estate is steeped in history that bestows upon it a colourful story dating all the way back to 1066. As restoration of the castle nears completion, the Foundation is able to renew its educational objectives once more. Opening up our castle to primary and secondary schools, colleges, adults and further education, our programmes offer hands-on training in restoration and maintenance, both of carved furniture and our country house. A dedicated Education Room will be available for students to have lunch, hold discussions and take shelter in wet weather when required. An open day will be scheduled for local schools (in or after hours), allowing teachers to see what Allerton Castle can offer to pupils and students of all ages.
