You may also want to take a step back in time and explore the Castle and Grounds of this magnificent country house with one of our guided, group or special tours.

Built in the 19th century, Allerton Castle is a relic of the English aristocracy, with roots that stretch back as far as 1066. Currently in the process of restoration, the country house is a pristine monument to the early modern period, with dramatic gothic features.

"Visited this magnificent House on Sep 20th 2016. Purchased in 1983 by its current owner an American Businessman Dr Rolph. Who purchased the castle with 1.5 Hectares of land. The building was in a state of disrepair and in need of substantial roof and structural repair. In 1986 Dr Rolph founded the Gerald Arthur Rolph Foundation for Historic Preservation and Education to preserve Allerton Park for English and World Heritage. Im so glad that he did, his contribution to Gothic Architecture and renovation is priceless to our Nation."

"Wow from the first moment you enter the castle. The huge wooden doors at the entrance is so well hung you can open it with one finger. Then you enter a huge space with a 70 feet high ceiling with a wooden roof. Lots of wooden panels and carvings. You go into a large white plaster room that almost gives the impression of a Mediterranean tent. Here you can have tea and cake to wait for the guided tour. An amazing jewel in Yorkshire ! "

"Visited the castle today with our HHA membership. Only open free to HHA on Wednesday and Bank holiday afternoons. We went on the 12.30 Tour with Jane. We thought it was a fascinating visit and Jane was excellent. Gerald Rolfe the owner allows you to walk on the expensive carpets and and sit on most of the lovely chairs. This Castle is well known for its weddings but a visit to see the castle is well worth the effort. The grand hall was amazing as was all the gothic look to the place"

"Lovely location for a lovely home.. What an experience to be able to have a tour around a lovely home that is open to all and is looked after to the highest quality.. Being able to walk on the original carpets where the owners previously did, sit on chairs which the owners did/do, be able to enjoy all aspects of the home.. Knowing somebody has spent fortunes on the premises and land for others to enjoy is clearly amazing, hats off the owner.. The guides with their wide span of knowledge of the home and area was amazing and very entertaining.. Definitely be going back and also letting others know its a must..."

Day Trip 2018
"I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the tour last Sunday 25th November. Having visited many Country Houses as part of the HHA I have to say that Allerton is quite unique. The restorations carried out by Dr Rolph really do transport the visitor back into an era that has sadly long passed. The Castle is an incredible building which thankfully has a benefactor who appreciates the quality and craftsmanship of the Victorian era. We were really made to feel at home. It was refreshingly different to be allowed to touch and sit on the furniture and not be constrained by guide ropes and a museum atmosphere. For a few hours it was as though Allerton Castle was home. During our visit the staff were all friendly, informative and attentive. The afternoon tea was delicious and beautifully presented. All in all a great day out. Dr Rolph is to be congratulated in saving a truly magnificent building from what inevitably would have been demolition, a fate that so many others have suffered. The only thing that would have made Sunday even better would have been to hear the instruments play in the Music room but perhaps that could be for another visit. Thanks once again. Eric Hamer"
