|
200 acres of breathtaking parkland and tranquil formal gardens surround this 18th Century treasure which stands dramatically amongst some of the finest North Yorkshire countryside the area has to offer.
Local legend suggests that Allerton Castle is not only renowned for its Grade 1 listed status and architectural beauty, but that this jewel in Yorkshire's crown and former home to Frederick Augustus, better known as "The Grand Old Duke of York" was the setting for a certain very famous story.
It is said that the ant-like activity of the Duke's men constructing the majestic Temple of Victory at the top of the 200 foot Allerton Hill within the Estate, was the inspiration for the famous nursery rhyme telling the tale of the famous Duke and his 10,000 men.
Allerton Castle is currently undergoing restoration work to improve this magnificent, historic venue.
